I’m Helen Hayden and I am running for Orange County Superior Court Judge seat #20 and I am running against incumbent judge Derek Johnson, whom the OC Register has deemed “unfit” to serve. Judge Johnson was publicly admonished by the Commission on Judicial Review for making the following statements during the sentencing stage of a rape trial:
“I’m not a gynecologist, but I can tell you something: If someone doesn’t want to have sexual intercourse, the body shuts down. The body will not permit that to happen unless a lot of damage is inflicted and we heard nothing about that in this case. That tells me that the victim in this case, although she wasn’t necessarily willing, she didn’t put up a fight……..”
See link to USA Today, discussing this, are nurses from the Center for Cosmetic & Reconstructive Gynecology on this outrageous behavior- http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/13/judge-women-rape-victims/1768673/
I understand appropriate judicial conduct and vow, if elected, to adhere to the following guiding principles:
- To act in accordance with the understanding that Judges are public servants, paid for by the taxpayer, and accountable to the people.
- To live by the principle that Judges have no right to legislate from the bench – they are obligated to uphold the laws, as written, regardless of personal beliefs.
- To recognize that appearing in court can be an intimidating experience and to treat all litigants, victims, witnesses and attorneys with respect and fairness.
I have the temperament, experience and work ethic to serve our community as a judge. This is Derek Johnson’s first election since his Public Admonishment – help me make it his last. I hope I can count on your vote in this important election and if you are interested in helping to get the word out please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Endorsed by the Republican Party of Orange County, The California Republican Assembly and The Lincoln Club of Orange County.
