York County’s unofficial vote totals show Wagner capturing 48 percent of the vote. Democrat Linda Small received 26 percent and GOP-endorsed candidate Ron Miller got 27 percent.
Scott Wagner went up against the establishment of both major parties. He was undermined at every turn in his attempts to get on the ballot to compete in Pennsylvania‘s special election to fill an open state senate seat. Yet, he was victorious in an unbelievable write-in campaign win.
After all the shenanigans, he was left with no other option but to run as a write-in candidate in a special election in which all the rules were changed at the last minute in order to knock Wagner off the ballot. Even though a primary is still taking place in May, the GOP made it so that whomever won in a new March special election would immediately be sworn into the senate seat and then await the primary and general election as technically an incumbent.
So how did Scott Wagner just beat the odds, conventional wisdom and the establishment itself to become the first person in Pennsylvania history to be elected to a State Senate seat via a write-in candidacy? If you don’t think telling voters the truth about the sorry state of corruption in your state house makes a difference, think again. If don’t think one organization of angry, dedicated and like-minded citizens can make a real difference in your state, then think again. If you don’t think good people trying to do the right thing and put their money where their mouth is, can’t be victorious in taking on the establishment, then you would be wrong!
Wagner was involved with an organization called Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP). (see video) This non-profit organization was formed long before tea partying became cool. The organization was created for the following reasons:
Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP) is a non-profit organization founded to raise the standard of living of all Pennsylvanians by restoring limited government, economic freedom, and personal responsibility. By empowering the Commonwealth’s employers and taxpayers to break state government’s “Iron Triangle” of career politicians, bureaucrats, and Big Government lobbyists, this restoration will occur and Pennsylvania will prosper. “
Its mission statement is deliberate, focused and to the point:
CAP counters the Iron Triangle by:
- Mobilizing public support for pro-employer, pro-taxpayer legislation;
- Exposing lawmakers who vote against employers and taxpayers; and
- Recruiting, training, and helping elect to the General Assembly men and women committed to restoring limited government, economic freedom and personal responsibility as citizen legislators with self-imposed term limits and no pension.
Will Scott Wagner be able to conquer the corrupt political system with its easily manipulative methods of counting the votes in the upcoming primary and general election? Nobody knows for sure. One thing that is certain, Pennsylvania’s 28th district has a successful businessman that beat all the odds and at least for now become a member of the State Senate via write-in ballot in an historical ride! He overcame $350,000 in attack ads against him, a GOP war chest of over $1 million and still went onto victory on March 18, 2014.
May his run be the first of many victories for all of us that are determined to break through the major party establishment corruption, bring our states back to constitutionally limited government and return to a nation of laws instead of elitist men.
