OSI member,

It is only 12 days until the Special Primary for the S.C. House Seat I am seeking.  I have two opponents, and because of the type of campaign I am running, I have to win this primary with a majority of the vote, or I am out of the picture.  Here is the lay of the land, I am running a completely grassroots campaign.  I am not asking for or accepting any donations, and have covered every penny of the campaign out of my own pocket, and since my pockets are very shallow, that amounts to paper to print my own campaign literature on, and black ink cartridges (I do use the $4.99 Lexmark ones).  I have knocked on over 5,500 doors, and hope to manage @ 1,000 more before 5 June.  My major opponent is the establishment candidate, she has  the endorsements of most of the incumbents, and has raised over $18,000 as of the 31st of March.  I have spent $944 as of the 21st of May.  She was supposed to update her campaign expenses on the 21st of May, and did, but she reported $0.00 collected and $0.00 spent.  Somehow I just do not believe that.  I think she is using the fact that we face off again only one week after the Special Primary in the Regular Primary, and she is going to say she was confused and did not know that she needed to report of the money spent on running for the seat, and she thought all her reporting should be on the one week later primary, thus giving the voter one week less to examine her campaign finances.  Oh well, while she has been chasing money, I have been chasing votes.  I do think I will win, but the 50% plus is important, because if forced into a runoff, she will be able to drown the airways with ads, and I will not have a single one.  My entire strategy is to win on the first go.

What can you do to help?  You can help by forwarding this email to everyone in your address book, along with YOUR PERSONAL REQUEST THAT THEY TAKE THE TIME TO READ AND ACT ON IT.  Why, because I am convinced that unless someone begging the process of changing the way politics is done, we will keep getting the same results.  I may not be successful, but I will have two years before facing re-election, and in those two years I can conduct myself ON PRINCIPAL, I have stated I will not make any ‘deals’ with other legislators, but will rather evaluate EACH AND EVERY bill I will vote on by IT’S OWN MERIT.  The things I will look for are (1) is it Constitutional [state and federal], (2) is it good for ALL the people in SC, and (3) does it play favorites for any special business or group?  The first two must have YES answers and the third a NO answer for a bill to get my vote.

I have also discovered, by reading state law, how lobbyists have so much influence in SC politics.  Would you believe that the law defines a campaign contribution from a lobbies as a “thing of no value”, and therefore not illegal for a legislature to accept.  I intend to use my position as a State Representative to make sure the voters in SC understand the connection between this ridiculous part of the Ethics Laws, and the power that the money of the lobbyists yield.

I know most, if not all of you have said, “We need to get the money out of politics”, at least once.  Well, I have proven that we can do just that in the operation of my campaign, and I intend to carry that through my time in the SC House.  I need every Americans help who believes that it is at least worth a shot at taking the first step of changing the way things are done.  If  you send this to everyone in your address book, and ask them to do the same, sooner or later the people who live in my district will get this message, and it will reinforce what they have already heard from me, or read in my brochure for those who were not home when I knocked.  A truly ‘viral’ email will be able to mobilize the true Grassroots Conservative Americans, and make this first step possible.
